THIS IS WHO WE ARE "But as for you, speak the things which are fitting for sound doctrine." -Titus 2:1
MISSION STATEMENT We at The Way Christian Fellowship strive to glorify God by introducing Jesus Christ to as many people as possible. Guiding them to be imitators of Christ, becoming a proactive community of believers in Lakewood and all the world.
OUR BELIEFS While we believe in the basic primary doctrines of the Christian faith such as:
Inerrancy of Scripture
The virgin birth
The blood atonement
The crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ
The bodily, visible, second coming of Jesus Christ
We hold these truths to be distinctive of Baptists and churches of like faith and order:
I. THE DEITY AND LORDSHIP OF JESUS CHRIST Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God and the second part of the Triune Godhead (Philippians 2:5-11).
II. THE ABSOLUTE NECESSITY OF THE NEW BIRTH The new birth (salvation) redeems a soul from hell, initiates a personal relationship with God, and precedes the indwelling spirit and God's provisions for His children (John 3:3,5,7).
III. REGENERATED CHURCH MEMBERSHIP A new birth experience is a prerequisite to church membership (Acts 2:47 ).
IV. SALVATION BY FAITH ALONE There is nothing an individual contributes to his salvation except to receive by faith the gift of salvation (Ephesians 2:8-9).
V. PRIESTHOOD, EQUALITY AND COMPETENCY OF ALL BELIEVERS Every child of God has direct access to God through prayer and is directly responsible to God for his actions (Revelation 1:5-6).
VI. THE ETERNAL SECURITY OF ALL BELIEVERS Once received, there is nothing that can rescind the gift of salvation (I Peter 1:5; Romans 8:28-39).
VII. THE BIBLE: THE SOLE AUTHORITY FOR FAITH AND PRACTICE The Bible is the complete, inerrant, infallible word of God (II Timothy 3:16 -17).
VIII. AUTONOMY AND THEOCRACY OF THE LOCAL CHURCH The head of the church is Christ and the local church is independent of any outside control (Matthew 18:15-17; Acts 13:1-3; Acts 15:1-35; I Corinthians 5:1-13; II Corinthians 8, 9).
IX. BELIEVER'S BAPTISM BY IMMERSION ONLY Baptism is an ordinance of the Church and is administered by immersion following a salvation experience. Baptism does not bring salvation but symbolizes the meaning of salvation. (It is a picture of the death, burial and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.) (Romans 6:4)
X. SYMBOLISM OF THE LORD'S SUPPER The Lord's Supper is the second ordinance of the church. Its practice and elements symbolize the body and blood of Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 11:23 -26).
XI. SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE The state will not exercise any control over the church nor will the church assert any legislative control over government (Matthew 22:15 -22).
XII. EVANGELISM OF THE WORLD THE SUPREME TASK OF THE CHURCH It is the responsibility of every Christian and church to spread the gospel of Christ (Matthew 28:19-20).
OUR VALUES SCRIPTURE - Proclaiming the Word of God reveals the person of Jesus. Matthew 4:4 - But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.'”
WORSHIP - Worshiping God with my words and actions brings glory to Jesus. Matthew 22:37 - And He said to him, "'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
COMMUNITY - Encouraging and supporting my fellow believers demonstrates the love of Jesus. Matthew 22:39 - “The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'”
DISCIPLESHIP - Growing in my Christian life conforms me to the image of Jesus. Luke 9.23 - And He was saying to them all, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.”
MINISTRY - Serving others in humility models the leadership of Jesus. Matthew 20:26-28 - “It is not so among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”
EVANGELISM - Reaching out to the world around me displays the life changing power of Jesus. Matthew 28:19 - “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
FAMILY - Loving my spouse and family promotes the priority of Jesus. Matthew 15:4 - “For God said, 'Honor your father and mother.'”
STEWARDSHIP - Giving of my time, abilities, and money proves the lordship of Jesus. Luke 16:10 - “He who is faithful in a very little thing is faithful also in much; and he who is unrighteous in a very little thing is unrighteous also in much.”
PRAYER - Praying in all situations affirms the authority of Jesus. John 14:13 - “And whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.”
UNITY - Preferring others over myself illustrates the teaching of Jesus. John 13:34 - “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another.”
